Meet Bethany Dinsick, a talented young artist from Bmore MD. I first came across her music as she shared the stage with some other friends of mine who were performing at a local venue. Her voice bewitched me from the first howl that reached my ears all the way at the back of the room, from where I was drawn to get a closer look. From the crowd rose the stage and there sat this skinny girl with long, dirty blond, hair, perfectly symmetrical bangs and a guitar that looked too big for her frail frame. Through the room permeated a blanket of eerie sounds and soothing vocals that induced a stillness like rarely experienced at live shows. I knew I had to work with this girl. I finally got the chance to talk to her about doing a shoot and what do you know, she was getting ready for a tour and was definitely up for working on some press photos.
The most interesting thing happened, when working together. The whole time I had a very clear idea of the image and persona I wanted to create so we went for it. She then proceeded to show me what she had in mind and things got even better. Good times.
This is my friend Mariya Rutka. It was her first time in Brooklyn and she wanted to have some modeling photos done while she was there. We went on to the roof of my best friend’s apartment and started shooting. I really liked the calmness of her face while getting her make up done so I decided to go ahead and take some shots. She has a very elegant look to her and I really wanted to capture that in these photos. Overall, I think it was a success. After showing them around she got a few proposals and I, a few compliments.
These, I took for my friends’ band, Lands and Peoples. They wanted press photos for their first tour, which was only a few days away. We were all really pressed for time so we shot the whole thing in about an hour. I decided to go for something comfortable, not too choreographed yet composed. So we went on a picnic first thing in the morning. I told them to wear whatever they wanted and to bring along a blanket and their instruments. I picked up a few snacks on the way to our location and off we were. As the light got warmer I pulled out the camera and started shooting. Everyone was pretty comfortable, considering we were really just hanging out. I did a little post work here and there and done, press photos. They were very pleased with the images and I think think they turned out pretty cool too.
